Wood for Soldiers' Wives

To be Delivered on next Saturday, Dec. 12th, 1863, on the State House Square.

Winter is upon us, and with its dreary blasts comes the necessity of protecting the wives and children of our country's brave defenders from the rigors of the season.

It is therefore proposed that every man in Sangamon county who can drive a team, shall appear in procession, in the city of Springfield, on next Saturday, with a huge load of wood for the soldiers' families.

On last Saturday the farmers of Morgan county hauled into Jacksonville about 160 loads of wood for this purpose. Shall not old Sangamon beat that? Sangamon county farmers, it is for you to say! Bring in then, on next Saturday, every stick of wood you can gather, and let us make the hearts of our noble soldiers glad.

The following gentlemen have been appointed the committee to receive and distribute the same:

G. A. SUTTON,
H. C. MYERS,
C. W. MATHENY,
GEO. N. BLACK,
OBED LEWIS.
