Roanoke Island.

The intelligence of the victory at Roanoke Island is confirmed in our dispatches to-day. The large number of killed and wounded of the rebel forces, as reported by themselves, evidences the energy and determination with which the contest was conducted. O. Jennings Wise, son of Gov. Wise, is reported among the wounded.

Roanoke Island is situated at the entrance to Albermarle Sound, and commands the coast approaches to Elizabeth city. Its capture will destroy the coasting trade of North Carolina, and open the way for an attack on Norfolk from the rear. Elizabeth city is reported burned by the flying rebels.
