Judge Douglas' Successor.

O. H. BROWNING, esq, of Quincy, has been appointed by Gov. Yates, to fill the vacancy in the senate caused by the death of Judge Douglas.

Gov. Yates has made a good party selection. Mr. Browning is a gentleman of a high order of talents, and, as a republican, conservative in his general views of national policy. For many years he has figured prominently as a lawyer and politician in Illinois, and has always stood in the first rank of his party. He will, doubtless, prove an able representative thereof in the senate, and otherwise creditably represent Illinois in that body.
